To be able to explain the proper use of fashion, I would have to explain what fashion really is about. If you enter google's web page and ask it what the meaning of fashion is, it will tell you that fashion is a popular style or practice, especially in clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, body piercing, or furniture. But there is something more about fashion that simply cannot be put into words. When you really think about it, fashion is in every single piece of clothing in the world. The only difference between the fashion among athletes and runway models is their standards of sophistications and the amount of importance they give to their appearance. However both of their entire wardrobes are still part of Fashion. To make this more easy to understand, I will describe it as a graph. Do not picture a pyramid but a square, a square which is divided into equal pieces that together form a square, none bigger than the other. Still, if you make a diagram in which you show the importance people give to fashion, then it would definitely look appear as a pyramid.
To be honest, I do not think that there is an specific way to "use" fashion. To be accurate, fashion is not something that is used. There are foolish people who use fashion to make themselves feel important or special. And there is even worse people, who think fashion will elevate their social status. The only thing that fashion should always make you feel is confident and beautiful. Personally, I like to refer to fashion as a way of self-empowerment. Every outfit I wrap myself around is my way to say: "look at me world". I am a fashionista, maybe my closet is not filled with Versace, maybe I don't own hundreds of pairs of shoes and maybe I do not buy a new outfit every day, but I do not need those things to be a fashionista or enjoy fashion. I am a fashionista because fashion is my way of showing who I am without words, because fashion is something that I admire and what I want to dedicate my life to. However, no matter what (or who) I wear, the most flattering thing I could ever wear is my confidence.
